The Fun Way to Learn Knitting

Well, it's been awhile, but we're back in the saddle again!  This charming little pattern book, The "Fun" Way To Learn Knitting, seemed like a great way to get back to sharing free patterns and techniques.  A short book, covering the basics including how to cast on, a variety of stitches, joining yarns, terms and four beginner patterns.

Here we go, starting with an adorable cover:

Enjoy these fun, free knitting patterns from this sweet, vintage pattern book.  A few holiday gifts should come together quickly!  Happy stitching!

Four Free Classic Sweater Patterns

A few days ago I read an article about one of the additional benefits of knitting, besides of course creating beautiful items to wear or share with your loved ones.  Those of us who knit know the joy and peace experienced while knitting and how it can and does recharge your emotional batteries.

So on that happy note, I pulled out a vintage pattern book dating from the sixties and am sharing four classic patterns here for your knitting pleasure.

Ladies Classic Cable Cardigan:

Man's and Woman's Cable Pullover Sweaters:

 Don't they look all serious?!

Knitting is love, baby!  It's good for you, good for the planet and good for your soul.  So break out those needles, grab some yarn and Knit On!

Free Scottie Dog Knitting Pattern Plus Bonus!

And here's the free Scottie dog pattern that was promised for my fellow knitters.  This vintage knitting pattern comes from a different pattern book in my collection but it's just as adorable as the kitty cat pattern, if not cuter.  Love the looks of this softie!

The Scottie dog pattern was featured with this toddler's knit dress.  This photo gives you an idea of the size of the dog when finished.  This dress was too sweet to not include so I've added the pattern here as well:

Baby Dress Number 374, size 2

Two knit patterns today instead of one!  The dress is beautiful and what a treasure it would be to create both for a special little girl for a holiday gift or pretty birthday party dress.

And here's the other free pattern for today, a fun knitting pattern for your older girl.  This vintage pattern is from the 1945 edition of "Minerva Teen-Age Togs" knitting pattern book.  I just love this cover!

Here's the pattern for the booties on the cover of the knitting book:

Two free patterns for girls today, one knitting and the other crochet.  Next time I'll see what I can come up with for patterns for boys!  :-)

Baby Sweater Set Knit Pattern

Today I have something for both the knitter and the crocheter.  First, the knitter.  Pouring through my vintage pattern books, I came across this sweet little knit baby's set.  It's a pretty set, easy to execute, with a dainty cable motif.  The pattern is for an infant of about six months and is for a bonnet, sweater and mittens.

Here are the instructions:

These general instructions apply to this knitting pattern as well as the crochet pattern that's coming up next:

If you knit as well as crochet, and you're looking for another free baby pattern, there's one coming up!  Keep checking back, you never know what interesting, vintage pattern I'll find in my vintage pattern book collection next!

Adorable Free "Anne" Toddler Sweater Pattern

This adorable knitting pattern is called "Anne" and is for toddlers ages 2 to 4 years old.  This cute knitting pattern is from a small vintage pattern book in my collection.  The book dates from the 1940s and is I believe English.  It is too cute not to share so please enjoy this free pattern!  I love the Little Bo Peep motif on the front!

It is definitely a well loved and used pattern book as you can see from the wrinkles in the pages!

Here you can see that some little one added a few scribbles to the pattern, but it's still readable, nonetheless.

Enlarging the instructions will make reading easier.

I'll be sharing a couple of other free vintage knitting patterns from the same book soon.  These charming patterns come together quickly and would make lovely gifts for your favorite little toddler!

Today I thought it would be nice to share a couple of knitting patterns from my vintage pattern book collection.  This first pattern is from a small book publish in London during World War II.  The book is full of practical, economical, yet adorable patterns for children.  This little "bed" jacket would make a lovely sweater for your favorite little girl:

In another vintage pattern book, I found this lovely little dress.  This pattern book is also from the war era but was published in Australia.  It is also full of beautiful layette patterns.
